The Stars at Night Travels to Iceland — and Back to the Texas Hill Country!

Seyðisfjörður, Iceland, September, 18, 2025

I wrote this while traveling on an awe-inspiring cruise with Atlas Ocean Voyages with some of The Stars at Night Team:

I am joined on this wonderful adventure by Producer/Astrophotographer Ryan Sultemeier, our Cinematographer/Astrophotographer Jonathan Jackson and our first night sky expert interviewed for the film:  author and night sky educator Amy Jackson.

Last night we had the joy of screening The Stars at Night on board as we overnighted in this small village of just 600 people— from 29 countries!

As the film ends — just before the credits roll — it invites viewers to take action to conserve our dark skies: locally, through Comal Dark Skies; nationally and internationally with DarkSky.org; and internationally, with the World at Night program.

For me, that moment is always deeply emotional. I’m so proud to share this message, born right in our own Canyon Lake neighborhood (thank you Becky, thank you Larry!), with audiences everywhere — from Iceland all the way back to the heart of the Texas Hill Country.

Serendipitously, National Geographic Photographer/Astrophotographer and The World at Night program founder Babak Tafreshi was also in Iceland at the same time we were, but on the other side of the island on an Aurora adventure, so our in person meeting is postponed once again.

Mark your calendars!

I’m delighted to announce that, as a celebration of Dark Sky Month, The Stars at Night will screen for FREE all over Comal County!

10/15 - 6:30pm: Garden Ridge Library, 9400 Municipal Pkwy, Garden Ridge, TX 78266

10/22 - 3-5 pm: Shertz Public Library, 798 Schertz Pkwy, Schertz, TX 78154

10/23 - 6:30-8pm: Mammen Library in Bulverde.

10/29 - 6-7:30pm: New Braunfels West Library, 2910 IH 35 S Frontage Rd New Braunfels

I’ll be at New Braunfels West Library on October 29th, and to introduce the film, with a focus on the original music that helped to bring the film alive, we will also have composer Jack McKown and electronic musician Josh Knight.

Sharing the Dark Skies and moments of awe are best when you can share them with those you love, and I’m delighted that I had not only my husband and Executive Producer John Knight aboard, abut also both my brother John Buckley and his wife Lynda on an extraordinary Iceland to Ireland journey.

Together, we are continuing to share the story of our skies — and protecting the night for future generations.

With gratitude,

Elizabeth (Betty) Buckley
